An employee from the University of Kentucky Center for Drug and Alcohol Research has been fired after she was accused this month of growing more than 40 marijuana plants in her home.
Tracey Ellerbe, 51, was terminated from her job as the center's manager for community-based services Tuesday, UK spokeswoman Kristi Lopez said Thursday.
Ellerbe had been on suspension without pay while UK conducted an investigation.
She was arrested after the grow lights she was using in her attic overloaded a circuit, causing a fire that significantly damaged the house on Nov. 1. Firefighters found the plants, according to court documents.
Ellerbe pleaded not guilty Tuesday to a charge of cultivation of more than five marijuana plants. Court documents say that she "admitted to growing the marijuana for personal use."
