DANVILLE — The fire department is investigating a fire early Tuesday morning that left a grandmother in critical condition.
Patricia Ruth May was listed in critical condition at the University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital on Tuesday afternoon. She suffered from smoke inhalation and respiratory arrest, Danville fire chief Woody Ball said.
May and three grandsons got out of the house at 831 Crosshill Road after the fire was reported at 1:40 a.m. Tuesday, Ball said.
Two boys, ages 11 and 13, escaped by breaking a front window, while May and a younger grandson fled through a rear door.
The fire appears to have started near an artificial Christmas tree, Ball said.
Six dogs and two cats also survived the fire. A seventh dog died.
