A blast at a Mercer County quarry sent a rock smashing into the windshield of a pickup truck on the U.S. 127 Bypass near Harrodsburg.
The driver of the truck wasn't hurt, Mercer Deputy Sheriff Erick Barkman said.
The blast, which was from an explosive charge used to loosen rock, happened shortly after noon Tuesday at Mercer Stone Co. on Burgin Road (Ky. 152), east of Harrodsburg. Rocks flew into the air and struck the windshield of the truck, Barkman said.
Barkman, who has worked for either the Harrodsburg police department or the sheriff's office over the last 17 years, said he doesn't recall any similar incident happening at the quarry.
