Hager Named Ruth Slack Roach Scholar
Midway College has named Amanda Hager as the 2009 Ruth Slack Roach Scholar.
Selection of the Ruth Slack Roach scholar is based on academic performance and a spirit of service. Helen Rentch, the daughter of Ruth Slack Roach, for whom the scholarship was established, says, “This award was created by friends and others who knew my mother to commemorate her spirit. That spirit was reflected in the service she gave to her community and the programs she helped create to enhance the lives of others. Among her good works she started the Headstart program in Midway, the Midway Recreation Department and raised money for the first swimming pool in Woodford County at Falling Springs. It is with that spirit of doing and making a difference that we honor her with this scholarship.”
Never miss a local story.
Hager, a Nicholasville junior majoring in teacher education, is the daughter of Troy and Dawn Hager. She is a member of the Midway Eagles softball team and is involved in the Student Government Association. She is also an active community volunteer and currently volunteers with the Big Brothers Big Sisters program.
