Judge Gormley Honored
Judge Tamra Gormley, Family Court Judge for Bourbon, Scott, and Woodford counties, was recently honored with the Keeping Children Safe Spirit Award coordinated by the Department for Community Based Services. The award honors those who are dedicated to keeping children safe and highlights child safety practices throughout the agency's Northern Bluegrass Region. DCBS Deputy Commissioner Teresa James said, "Judge Gormley deals with a high caseload of families with substance abuse issues....and holds families to a high standard. No child will be harmed further under her watch by parents or caregivers who are under the influence of drugs, and she sees to it that families seek and complete drug treatment and remain drug free for several months before their children are returned. This outstanding judge is also first to praise families that are making good efforts to remain drug free, and she offers her encouragement to those who are making strides to reunite or keep their families intact. Judge Gormley remains firm in her belief that children need safety and permanency, and her rulings from the bench reflect that fundamental philosophy. We recognize these individuals....as valuable partners in our mission to preserve the well-being of Kentucky children." Award recipients were nominated by their peers.
