Midway Artists Shine at Kentucky Crafted: The Market
Kentucky Crafted: The Market, an arts marketplace sponsored by the Kentucky Arts Council to promote Kentucky products and support artists, was held recently in Louisville. Midway artist Gretchen Papka was presented the Best New Artist award. “My work is inspired by bold architecture, textured walls, utilitarian objects and beauty. Each of these is revealed and celebrated in layers of beeswax, resin and color while subtle details are mysteriously hidden. The variety of themes is reflective of personal, commercial and graphic art experiences, inspired travel and my love of the process, “ says Papka on her website, www.gpapka.com.
Eric and Mary Thoreson, owners of Midway’s Damselfly Studio and Gallery, 126 East Main Street, were presented the Top Retailer Award. The shop features the work of over 200 Kentucky artists as well as Eric Thoreson’s lampworked beads. Visit www.damselflybeads.com.
