Oct 8, 2010 - It’s that time of year again! Though fall has just begun, volunteers at Military Missions, Inc. are busy getting ready for Christmas.
OPERATION S.E.N.D. CHRISTMAS is just one of the projects that this organization undertakes each year, and it is definitely one of the biggest! Military Missions, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting our military and their families, as well as our veterans. The organization sends care packages out on a year round basis, but efforts for Christmas increase tenfold.
"On Christmas Day, our troops will not be gathered around the tree at home with family and friends. Instead, they will be standing watch over each of us, protecting us from harm and defending our liberties, “ states Beth Pennington, Founder of Military Missions, Inc. “Each one is a parent, a sibling, a child, a spouse, a friend, and an American. We need to send them encouragement as well as our thanks.”
OPERATION S.E.N.D. CHRISTMAS has taken on a life of its own. Each year the project gets bigger and bigger. The need arose to create a website specifically for this endeavor. There are so many different ways for people to get involved locally, as well as on the national level. In order to easily present all of the information in a user friendly format, a new website was designed and was launched last week. You can check the site out at www.opsend.org. If you access the internet with your mobile device, you can visit the site at www.opsend.mobi.
Several events around the community have been planned. There will be two community wide care package assemblies which are open to the general public. An event in Lexington is scheduled for November 9. The event has been moved to a new location this year and will be held at First Alliance Church. Detailed information can be found on the new website at www.opsend.org. Information about the Frankfort event on November 18 can also be found on the website.
There are a number of ways that people can get involved in OPERATION S.E.N.D. CHRISTMAS. Military Missions is accepting donations in the form of care package items, cards and letters, and monetary donations to cover postage which will be about $50,000 for boxes mailed out this December.
Schools, churches, organizations, businesses, and individuals from all over the USA participate in OPERATION S.E.ND. CHRISTMAS. To find out more about how you can get involved, visit the website at www.opsend.org. You may contact the organization via email at firstname.lastname@example.org, by calling 859-221-9477, or you can drop by the new office located in Millpond Shopping Center at 3650 Boston Road, Suite 146, in Lexington. Kentucky.
To find out more about Military Missions Inc., you can visit the organization’s main website at www.military-missions.org.
The deadline for donations is November 30, but everyone is encouraged to get involved early. Donations are being accepted now. Boxes will be mailed the first week in December in order to reach our troops by Christmas Day.
If you know of someone who will be deployed during the Christmas holiday this year they can be added to the care package mailing list at www.military-missions.org/addahero.htm.
