Shotgun pellets hit a month-old baby and two other people after a shotgun accidentally discharged and the pellets went through a wall in a home, according to Kentucky State Police at the Harlan post.
The incident occurred about 6:40 p.m. Tuesday in the Baxter community of Harlan County.
According to state police, Michael Southerland, 19, of Wallins, was unloading the shotgun when it accidentally discharged, the pellets shot through a wall and into the next room. Jason Maggard, 25, his wife, Carrie Maggard, 25, and their baby daughter, Ashley Maggard, were injured.
Carrie Maggard was treated at Harlan Appalachian Regional Hospital and released. Jason Maggard was transported to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital in Lexington, where he was treated and released. Ashley Maggard was flown to University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville. Her condition was unavailable Wednesday night.
State police are investigating.
