Lexington police and firefighters responded to several traffic accidents Friday night as a thin layer of snow and ice made for hazardous driving conditions, particularly in north Lexington.
New Circle Road was closed between Leestown Road and Georgetown Street starting at about 10 p.m. because of a crash reportedly involving at least seven cars. The outer loop of New Circle reopened at about 11:20, while the inner loop was closed longer.
Several people were taken to the hospital from that accident and several others, including a serious crash involving a tractor-trailer and a pickup truck near Leestown Road and Leesway Drive.
Other wrecks were reported on Interstate 75 and Tates Creek Road. Non-injury accidents and reports of cars drifting off the road came in from all over the city.
Never miss a local story.
Lexington police were not immediately available for comment.
