Women sentenced for taking thousands from Boyd law firm

- aclark@herald-leader.com

A Catlettsburg woman was sentenced to 41/2 years in prison Monday for defrauding her employer of thousands of dollars.

A jury convicted Ronda Nixon in February of 11 counts of wire fraud, two counts of bank fraud, three counts of aggravated identity theft and one count of use of an unauthorized access device.

Officials say Nixon worked for Pruitt & Thorner Law Office in Catlettsburg and used the firm's credit card for personal purchases totaling more than $93,000.

She used the card to pay off a $10,600 school loan and bought airline tickets, cosmetics, Victoria's Secret clothing and massages, according to a news release from the office of James A. Zerhusen, U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Kentucky.

Reach Ashlee Clark at (859) 231-1443 or 1-800-950-6397, Ext. 1443.
