Marijuana plants seized in Woodford County

- kward1@herald-leader.com

Forty marijuana plants with a street value of $80,000 were seized from four locations in southern Woodford County Monday.

The plants were 8 to 12 feet tall and just two to three weeks from being harvested, said Versailles police spokesman Pat Melton.

While no one had been arrested Monday night, Melton said law enforcement officials have some suspects and charges are pending.

The Woodford County Sheriff, Versailles Police Department and Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife cooperated on the case.

Melton said local farmers and other residents provided tips that led officers to the plants, some of which were on farmland in remote parts of the county.
