Sheriff investigates Frankfort woman's death

- aclark@herald-leader.com

Police are awaiting autopsy results for a woman who died one day after she allegedly was assaulted by her boyfriend.

Franklin County deputies were called to a domestic dispute on Georgetown Road in Frankfort on Saturday. Franklin County Sheriff Steve Clark said Bette Winn, 53, had been assaulted by her boyfriend, Joe Gregory Wilson, 57.

"It appeared as though she had been hit in the face," Clark said.

Deputies offered Winn medical attention three times, but she refused, Clark said.

Wilson was arrested on a charge of fourth-degree assault. He has been released on bond.

The next day, Winn was found unresponsive at a friend's house and was pronounced dead, Clark said.

Deputies are waiting for autopsy and toxicology reports to determine Winn's cause of death. No additional criminal charges have been filed in the case, Clark said.
