Coach Cal is all a-Twitter after discovering Stella's Deli

University of Kentucky men's basketball coach John Calipari has discovered what he called a "jewel" in downtown Lexington.
Earlier this month, while on his way to Transylvania University to watch his son at a basketball camp, Calipari said on Twitter, he turned down Jefferson Street and saw a deli. "I go in for a bowl of soup and salad. All locally grown food. Great! Stella's. Wow."

Chefs share secrets on TV
Kentucky's top chefs will be showcased on a new TV series premiering at 7:30 p.m. Saturday on WTVQ (Channel 36).
Secrets of Bluegrass Chefs, hosted by Tim Laird, takes viewers on a culinary tour of Kentucky featuring fine-dining spots as well as burger and barbecue restaurants. The program will tell the stories behind each restaurant and reveal chefs' secrets to making their most popular dishes.
Doodle's Breakfast and Lunch, 262 North Limestone, is one of the first restaurants featured, along with Malone's and Woodford Reserve, with chef Ouita Michel.
After the series premiere, Secrets of Bluegrass Chefs will air at 6 p.m. in Lexington on MyTVQ-2, WTVQ's second digital channel on Insight Channel 138.
Dudley's dishes out some old favorites
Dudley's will be moving to 259 West Short Street in December, and in celebration of the past 28 years at Dudley Square, owner Debbie Long is serving a retro menu. "We have gone back and added to our lunch and dinner menu old favorites from our past menus," she said.
The dinner menu features green chile won tons; chicken livers Normandy; saltines with three dipping sauces; pistachio-crusted goat cheese; and lump crab, grapefruit and avocado salad.

New jazz bar is a grill, too
Jazzy Bar & Grill is open at 209 Old Georgetown Street. Owner Geoffrey Grimes also owns Richies Fast Food. The jazz club serves Richies wings, catfish nuggets, shrimp cocktail, chicken fingers, and JazzyG's special rib sandwich. Hours are 4 p.m. to midnight Wednesday through Thursday, and 4 p.m. to 1 a.m. Friday and Saturday. Call (859) 351-4080.
Julep Cup brings summer to its menu
The Julep Cup and Seahorse Lounge, 111 Woodland Avenue, has added new summer selections. Included are pan-seared scallops with house-made ravioli; smoked salmon with salt-risen toast points and house-made organic Kentucky tomato vodka; and tropical pineapple salad with coconut, peanuts and Malibu rum vinaigrette. Cobbled from Colorado cherries

Berea prizes its local flavor
The Berea Farmers Market and Sustainable Berea are celebrating locally produced food and farmers this weekend.
Beginning at 4:30 p.m. Friday at the farmers market, local restaurants will serve fresh food. On Saturday, from 9:30 to 11 a.m., farm tours will be at Grinning Planet Farm, Salamander Springs Farm and the Sustainable Mountain Agriculture Center. Tour maps are available at the farmers market, which is under the Berea Community High School football stadium.
Saturday's events include workshops on growing food at Baumanns Forever Farm, 5012 Paint Lick Road. Baumanns will serve lunch made from local farm products. Tickets are $10 and are sold at the farmers market Friday.
On Sunday, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., the 100-mile potluck and auction will be at the Berea Community School on Pirate Parkway. Admission is free, and participants are to bring a dish and the recipe saying where the food was grown. Prizes will be awarded for recipes that best illustrate using local food.
At vineyard, wine comes with dinner
Horseshoe Bend Vineyards is serving dinner at 7 p.m. Saturday featuring chicken, tilapia or beef with rice pilaf and summer vegetables. The cost, including paired wines, is $35. Call (859) 375-0296 or (859) 805-1674 or go to www.horseshoebend.com. The winery is at 1187 Lawson Lane in Willisburg.
Barbecue bounty on the buffet
Campbell's in Paris, 519 Main Street, is having a barbecue buffet from 6:30 to 10 p.m. Saturday. Featured are citrus-glazed pork shoulder, smoked beef ribs, green bean casserole, parsleyed new potatoes, corn bread salad, fried apples, and fresh melon and tomatoes. The cost is $14.95. Farmers market reports
Here's what's available at farmers markets this week:
■ Bluegrass Farmers Market will have customer-appreciation day Saturday. Cooking demonstrations and samplings will be 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The market is at 3450 Richmond Road, next to the Glenn Auto Mall.
■ Honest Farm Market is open 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Fridays and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays at Midway Christian Church at Gratz and Bruen streets. This week's selections include homemade peach and strawberry jam, peach ice cream topping, black locust and clover honey, heirloom tomatoes and bicolor corn from Ellen and Sam Mast of Crab Orchard, and organic beans and beets.
■ Woodford County Farmers Market will have blackberries, tomatoes, cucumbers, white half-runners, corn, red cabbage, garlic, peppers, beets and apples. The market is open 3 to 6 p.m. Mondays at Falling Springs Recreation Center in Versailles, 3 to 6 p.m. Wednesdays on Main Street in the parking lot of Versailles Presbyterian Church, and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays at Courthouse Square.
