Meals on Wheels marks 40th anniversary with reception

Meals on Wheels will celebrate its 40th anniversary Sunday at Second Presbyterian Church, 460 East Main Street. A reception from 2 to 4 p.m. will honor past and present volunteers.
Meals on Wheels president Nancy Ehmann said the organization serves 200 clients a day, and there are openings for clients on most routes. "We also need more volunteers," she said. Call (859) 276-5391.
Taking a page from Julia's book
Three Suns Bistro in Nicholasville will have a wine-tasting dinner at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. The menu, inspired by Julia Child's Mastering the Art of French Cooking, includes wild mushroom crepe with brie sauce, and cassoulet. The cost is $40. Call (859) 245-0048. Murder's on the menu
Bluegrass Mystery Theatre will present Murder at the Monster Bash at the sister restaurants Portofino, Summit and Serafini. The menu includes beef medallions and pasta portobello.
Shows begin at 7 p.m. Dates are: Thursday at Portofino, 249 East Main Street; Oct. 23 at Summit, 1097 Duval Street; and Oct. 24 at Serafini 243 West Broadway in Frankfort. Tickets are $47.50.
The play also will be at Cleveland's, 140 Park Street in Versailles, at 7 p.m. Oct. 29. Tickets are $35 for a three-course dinner and show.

Stuffed with cupcakes
On Friday, Brown's Bakery, 1397 West Main Street, will celebrate its third anniversary and on Saturday will have its last cupcake buffet of the year. For $10, you may sample 20 of Brown's signature cupcake flavors from 3 to 6 p.m. Flavors include German chocolate, Italian cream, red velvet, strawberry, coconut, caramel and sundae.

Feel free to try some samples
Oliva Bella offers samplings of products at its tasting room, 406 South Broadway. This week the products are imported single estate olive oils, house-made pumpkin ravioli, rustic Italian tomato and bread soup, and baked pasta with Bluegrass Chevre's artisan feta cheese.
