The economy? What a joke!
Hard Times comedy troupe catches spirit of recession with 'affordable entertainment'By Scott Sloan ssloan@herald-leader.com
A Central Kentucky comedy troupe is looking to take advantage of the recession. And why not? Three members of the five-person group are unemployed.
"There are hard times right there," said Hard Times comedy troupe member Darrin Hensley.
The group includes Hensley and four other local comedians who have vowed that no ticket prices can go above $7 for their "affordable entertainment," he says.
"We wouldn't even do that, but sometimes the venue wants to take a cut," he said.
The members — Hensley, Ray Mills, Matt Linville, Mike Thompson and Audra Meighan — met at open mike nights across the region.
And while the ticket price gimmick is economic, the humor's not.
"We try not to hit everyone over the head with a theme running through the entire show," Hensley said. "Hard Times is more a thing that we're trying to look out for everyone else."
