Not everything available to shoppers during October, National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, is pink, but there is no shortage of clothing, accessories and makeup in rose-colored hues that have become associated with donating to breast cancer research and support.
Here are just of few of pink finds you'll find in stores and online this month.
■ QVC and the Fashion Footwear Association of New York will join forces for "QVC Presents FFANY Shoes on Sale," a designer shoe event featuring half-off merchandise to benefit breast cancer research and education. This year's program will air a live broadcast 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday.
The shoes are of all styles and colors, but you'll find plenty of pink in the mix. Brands include Jessica Simpson, Coach and Ugg Australia. Can't wait until Saturday? Go to QVC.com for the shoe-of-the-day specials throughout October.
Never miss a local story.
■ In department stores, look for luxury cosmetic company Shiseido's Shimmering Rouge Lipstick in plummy "Iron Maiden" for $25. During October, $5 from each sale goes to an organization that helps women in the workforce coping with cancer.
■ Several retailers have put together limited-edition collections this month. Loft teamed up with jewelry designers Rachel Leigh and Roxanne Assoulin as well as Jessica Quirk, a blogger for What I Wore, to create three bracelets available for $34.50 at Loft stores and at Loft.com. Also at Loft, three T-shirts, each representing strength, support and inspiration, are $39.50. A portion of the proceeds from the jewelry and shirts go to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
■ Echo Design, known for its scarves, gloves and wraps, offers a selection of items at its Pink Boutique, where 15 percent of all sales go to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Among the offerings are a silk twill scarf in the company's vintage prism pattern, $32 at Echodesign.com
■ On Saturday in Lexington, runners and walkers will gather to raise funds for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, 8 a.m. at Centrepointe on Main Street.
But beyond Saturday's event, Komen for the Cure merchandise, including tees, sweatshirts and jewelry, are a stylish way to show your support all year long. Go to Shopkomen.com to purchase.
