I have been getting questions about what I think of Kroger and Meijer no longer doubling coupons. Kroger will stop doing it Sept. 22. Meijer already has.
For me, it will mean that I will be spending more money in other stores where I didn’t before. I won’t stop clipping coupons because I believe you can still save money using coupons. I will still follow my Sunday process of checking the sales fliers and matching my coupons to those sales.
Here are some tips to help you save without double coupons.
Never miss a local story.
Although it will no longer double coupons, Kroger has said it will be lowering prices plus putting higher value digital coupons on its website. Take the time to register your card online to be able to load the digital coupons to your Kroger Plus loyalty card. Kroger has also been doing a promotion called freebie Friday where it has been giving you a free product coupon to load on your card on Fridays only.
If you haven’t been receiving coupons in the mail make sure that Kroger has your correct address by going to the customer service desk and asking them to verify the address associated with your loyalty card.
Check the sales flier to see what promotions are taking place. Even without double coupons, when you match coupons with a mega sale (when you buy a certain quantity of products then you receive dollars off your final bill) you will save money. You can turn your smartphone into a money saver with the Kroger Mobile App. Load digital coupons, check fuel awards plus lots more on your phone.
If you are going to do clothes shopping, make home improvements or go to a restaurant, be proactive and purchase a specifically marked gift card from Kroger to receive two times gas fuel points. And often at this time of year Kroger offers four times the fuel points on its gift cards. Pay attention to Kroger ads for that information. Target tips
Target can be a great place to save money in several different ways. For starters, Target allows you to stack coupons. This means allowing the use of one manufacturer’s coupon and one Target store coupon.
Target coupons can be found in a variety of places. I usually do not encourage getting another credit card, but when you get a Target red credit card you receive 5 percent off your purchase and Target coupons will be sent to you in the mail.
Target’s website also allows you to print off store coupons. Sign up for Target mobile coupons sent to your phone. You can pull the coupons up on your phone’s screen and the cashier can scan the bar code. These coupons are meant to be used only once but can be stacked with manufacturer coupons.
There is a savings program called Cartwheel by Target which gives you more opportunities to get great deals. You can get as much as an additional 30 percent off on items at Target including groceries, health and beauty and baby products, and more. You will need to have a Facebook account to earn savings and a smartphone to redeem those savings in stores although you can bring a printed barcode with you in lieu of a smartphone.
