Ashland-based artist Noelle Horsfield creates exquisite ceramics, at once edgy and charming. A stony Star Wars stormtrooper, for instance, stares out from a porcelain platter. Vintage floral decals surround a sly hand-carved fox.
"The curiosity cabinets of the European Renaissance, and, later of the Victorian Era, have always held my fascination," she says in an artist statement for Noelle Horsfield: Curious Porcelain, an exhibit at the Craft(s) Gallery (Craftslouisville.com), in Louisville.
Pieces, created using mishima and sgraffito techniques for designs that resemble wood carvings, will be on view through Sept. 29.
And for those inspired by the exhibit to add one of Horsefield's whimsical porcelains to their own collection, items are available for purchase at the gallery. Or go to Noelle-horsfield.com.
