A fox in Hartland Parkway area has rabies, the Lexington-Fayette County Health Department said Friday. It is the second animal this week to have rabies confirmed.
Residents of Hartland Parkway are being asked to ensure their pets' rabies vaccinations are current. The health department is posting signs in the neighborhood. A skunk in the Spurr Road area was found to have rabies on Tuesday.
Rabies, a viral disease, is transmitted to humans by the saliva of a rabid animal. In 2008, Fayette County had four cases of rabies reported, three in a bat and one in a skunk.
