The American Heart Association wants people who work and shop downtown to take advantage of a half-mile, indoor walk formed by Lexington's pedways.
At 10 a.m. Wednesday, the group will celebrate the trail with an inaugural lap.
The marked path through nine buildings includes several sets of stairs and one set of escalators.
Jennifer Ebert, Heart Walk director for the American Heart Association of Central Kentucky, hopes people will use the walkway daily. Workers can take a 15-minute walk instead of smoking a cigarette or going to the vending machine, she said.
Sedentary lifestyle is the number one contributor to cardiovascular disease in the United States, she said.
