The Board of Health has called an emergency meeting for Thursday to address issues related to the operation of the Health Department.
The meeting was called by Board of Health chairman Dr. John Roth after Mayor Jim Gray expressed concern Tuesday about the management of the department.
The department and the Primary Care Governing Council, which oversees the Primary Care Center — which offers care to 17,000 mostly poor patients a year — are in the midst of a battle over executive director William North. North has been suspended with pay by health commissioner Dr. Melinda Rowe. The Primary Care board then voted to keep him.
The pharmacy at the Primary Care Center is under investigation by the Kentucky Office of the Inspector General.
Thursday's meeting will provide employees and the public a chance to discuss health department issues. It will be held at 5:30 p.m. at the Lexington-Fayette County Health Department, 650 Newtown Pike.
A meeting Wednesday has been called to discuss North's situation, but health officials said that one is closed to the public and open only to employees.
