Construction is under way at The Arboretum on its new Kentucky Children's Garden, scheduled to open May 14.
"There is plenty to do if you're a kid," said Marcia Farris, director of The Arboretum.
The garden will feature a "quilt," a play area with water features and various sections featuring wildflowers. There also will be a butterfly garden, with pollinator- attracting plants such as milkweed. Children will be able to observe the life cycles of butterflies, seeing caterpillars, cocoons and butterflies.
Sidewalks are imprinted with tracks of animals native to Kentucky and footprints representing the region's Native Americans.
Never miss a local story.
Other features include a small cave, a shallow stream, a pioneer homestead and a dock with a river flatboat.
