The Lexington Lions Club Bluegrass Fair is seeking entries for nearly 150 classes in its Fruit, Flower and Vegetable Contest, to be July 14 and 15 at the fair at Masterson Station Park.
The Fayette County Master Gardeners and Lexington Council Garden Clubs sponsor the event.
There are no entry fees, and ribbons and cash prizes will be awarded. First-time participants will receive a gift (while supplies last).
Divisions of competition include:
Never miss a local story.
■ Horticulture: specimens of fruits, vegetables, herbs, perennials, annuals, roses, container plants, etc.
■ Design: arrangements of flowers and other elements.
■ Bees and honey.
■ Youth: contests for pre-school through age 17.
Entries will be accepted 9 to 11:30 a.m. July 14, and judging will be at 1 p.m.
The show, free with fair admission, will be open 3 to 10 p.m. July 14 and 15.
The contests have a nursery-rhyme theme this year, and that is expected to prove interesting, especially in the design division. Entries can be made in the "Peter Piper" class for a design incorporating peppers or the "Polly, Put the Kettle On" class for a design in a teapot.
