    Peter Magowan, the owner who brought Barry Bonds to San Francisco, built a new ballpark and kept major league baseball in the city, is stepping down as managing partner of the Giants.

    With post-season hopes at stake, Kentucky opened its final three-game series of the regular season like, well, Wildcats. Sawyer Carroll homered, doubled twice and singled, driving in six as UK downed Mississippi 12-4 Thursday at Cliff Hagan Stadium.

    Just when the Lexington Legends thought it couldn't get any worse, Hagerstown pinch hitter Tim Pahuta stepped to the plate. On the first pitch, Pahuta belted a two-run bomb in the ninth inning Thursday night to give the Suns a come-from-behind 7-6 win at dreary and drizzly Applebee's Park. What appeared to be a Legends win fueled by a rare offensive outburst quickly turned into another deflating loss.

    Jared Lorenzen admitted to being shocked when he heard that the New York Giants had selected his former teammate, Andre Woodson, in the sixth round of the NFL Draft two weekends ago. The selection of Woodson gave the Giants five quarterbacks to work with. Most NFL teams keep only three.

    Fluke schmuke. After Henry Clay beat perennial power Paul Dunbar in late April, the Lady Devils heard all of the excuses. The Bulldogs had five starters out, including four of the team's seniors, who were away on a class trip.
