BRIEFS: Cassity named Red Cross hero

Jessamine County Judge-Executive Neal Cassity is the recipient of the Red Cross Jessamine County Hero of the Year Award. Cassity accepted the award in a ceremony at the St. Joseph-Jessamine RJ Corman Ambulatory Care Center on Nov. 4. The award is presented to someone who has been active in making a difference in his or her community.

Swimmer in national Special Olympics

East Jessamine High School student Collin Lutz, 17, has been selected to Team Kentucky for the 2010 Special Olympics USA National Games, July 18-23 in Lincoln, Neb. Lutz will swim two individual races and one relay.

Lutz, who has been a Special Olympics athlete for 10 years, qualified for selection thanks to a Gold Medal in the 100-meter backstroke at the 2009 Special Olympics Kentucky State Summer Games. This will be his first time competing above the state event level.
