The Shakespeare and Co. in Chinoe Shopping Center has closed for regular dining.
According to Lauren Untch, a spokeswoman for the Dubai-based chain known as much for its eclectic decor as its voluminous menu, the location closed earlier this summer for dining, but is still open for events and available for parties through the end of the year.
“We always did more events there, so that’s what it’s been converted to,” Untch said.
The restaurant opened in July 2014 as part of an expansion of the chain in Lexington. It occupied the spot where restaurants Pacific Pearl and Rossi’s were formerly located.
Never miss a local story.
Shakespeare and Co. might consider closing that location entirely next year, she said.
“The Hamburg location is drawing a lot more customers from that area than we expected,” she said.
Shakespeare and Co. locations downtown on Short and Broadway and in Hamburg are still open.
The company was founded by Dubai businessman Edward Saad, who earned a doctorate in chemical engineering at the University of Kentucky. There are more than a dozen Shakespeare and Co. franchises in the United Arab Emirates. Saad also owns the Pita Social franchise.
