A fourth quarter horse stallion has tested positive for contagious equine metritis, a venereal disease.
According to a Kentucky Department of Agriculture spokesman, the stallion, which was confirmed positive on Dec. 22, arrived in Kentucky in December 2007.
The Central Kentucky farm where the stallions stood, DeGraff Stables/Liberty Farm in Midway, said in an update on its Web site that test results from all its stallions may not be available until mid-January.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency also has launched an investigation after confirming that horse semen from an infected stallion were shipped into Ontario and Alberta in 2008.
Horses on potentially infected farms in Canada have been quarantined.
