The recession claimed its latest retail victim on Thursday, when S&K Menswear announced it will close its 105 stores throughout the Eastern United States.
The company filed for bankruptcy protection in early February, but "the current economic climate left us with no choice but to close down the business," Jonathan Tibus, chief restructuring officer, said in a statement.
The stores began a going-out-of-business sale Thursday that will continue until all merchandise is sold.
The company's Lexington stores are at Hamburg Pavilion and Fayette Mall. Two other Kentucky stores are in Louisville.
Existing S&K gift cards will be honored during the closing sales.
