Beginning Thursday, the station on which to watch the nightly lottery drawing is changing from Fox affiliate WDKY (Channel 56) to CWKYT, the CW affiliate in Lexington.
The CW is a digital subchannel of CBS affiliate WKYT (Channel 27) and is available over the air as 27.2. It's also available on Insight cable on channel 5 and on Time Warner Cable systems throughout Central Kentucky, said Mike Kanarek, vice president of operations at WKYT.
Kanarek said The CW is available on about 85 percent of cable systems in the viewing area. It's also viewable on DirecTV but not on Dish Network, he said.
Kanarek said the station could not air the drawing on WKYT because CBS programming runs past 10:59 p.m., and the drawing begins at 10:58 p.m. Since The CW has local but not network programming in the 10 p.m. hour, the station could air it without issue.
Never miss a local story.
"We know people are interested in it," he said. "Hopefully it will help drive some more people to CW."
The change in Lexington is one of several for the drawing. In Louisville, it will now be seen on WBKI, while Northern Kentucky viewers can see it on WKRP.
The station that carried the show in Ashland, WVAH, will no longer air it.
