Rains, drought, fickle customers — how's a fruit and vegetable grower to cope? A new manual, available from the Kentucky Department of Agriculture, can help.
The 2010 Kentucky Farmers' Market Manual has information on the Good Agricultural Practices Program, which provides training on growing, transporting and handling produce. It also offers updated contacts and resources; information on home processing programs, food sampling and cooking demonstrations; recommendations on market rules and other helpful stuff on targeting the state's 137 farmers' markets.
Go to www.kyagr.com, click on Programs, then Farmers' Markets to view the guidebook.
