Louisville-based liquor maker Brown-Forman announced Monday it will run its own distribution operations in Germany beginning in October.
The maker of Woodford Reserve, Jack Daniel's and Finlandia Vodka's current distributor in Germany is Bacardi; Brown-Forman said it is in discussions with Bacardi and other distributors in other European markets whose contracts expire in 2010 about future arrangements.
Germany is one of Brown-Forman's largest markets outside the United States. This will be the company's ninth wholly-owned sales and marketing operation.
"We believe that establishing our own distribution company will help us accelerate the development of our brand portfolio in Germany over time," said Paul Varga, Brown-Forman CEO.
Brown-Forman's brands also include Southern Comfort and Korbel.
