A new Thai restaurant has opened in the former spot of Siam Thai, which was shut down after a lawsuit by the state earlier this year that claimed it owed $22,678.81 in back taxes dating to October 2007.
The new restaurant is called Siam, though owner Pramote Chaiwan registered the business with the Secretary of State's office on Feb. 11 as Siam Thai, Inc. He said he hired some of the servers who used to work at Siam Thai but said he's not affiliated with the old group.
The former restaurant has not paid the back taxes as of this week, said Cindy Lanham, a spokeswoman for the state Finance and Administration Cabinet.
The new restaurant's phone number is the same as Siam Thai's old number — (859) 252-7903. Its hours are 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and noon to 9:30 p.m. Saturdays. Chaiwan said the restaurant is closed on Sundays but he plans on opening on that day sometime in the future.
