Apple's iPad tablet computer that hits U.S. store shelves on Saturday will be available at Lexington's Best Buy on Nicholasville Road. The Hamburg location of the consumer electronics chain won't have the iPad, as it doesn't have an Apple store inside.
The Apple Store located inside the University of Kentucky Bookstore in the UK Student Center will also carry the device, but, because it's a campus retail store with education discounts, the public can't shop there. The store requires UK identification cards for sales.
Although Apple products are typically given an education discount there, the iPad will sell at regular price, said Kevin McClurg, manager of the Apple store inside the bookstore. McClurg said the iPads are set to arrive Saturday, but the store employees do not know at what time they'll be available. The store's hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.
The closest public Apple Store locations are at Louisville's Oxmoor Center and Cincinnati's Kenwood Towne Centre. The iPad's price ranges from $499 to $699.
