Harrah's Entertainment on Thursday confirmed it has entered into an agreement to buy Thistledown Race Track near Cleveland, reportedly for $43 million although the casino company did not disclose a price.
"We have thousands of loyal customers who live in Ohio, and we're glad we will have the opportunity to bring our unique entertainment options closer to them and to others in the area," Gary Loveman, chairman, CEO and president of Harrah's Entertainment said, in a news release. "Our decision to acquire Thistledown is yet another step demonstrating our optimism in the company's future."
Harrah's co-owns Turfway Park in Northern Kentucky with Keeneland and owns Players' Bluegrass Downs, a harness track in Paducah.
Ohio voters will decide in November whether Ohio racetracks can add slot machines.
