A bogus health insurance company selling unauthorized policies might have victimized about 300 Kentuckians, according to the Kentucky Department of Insurance.
Policies were sold under a variety of names, including American Trade Association, Smart Data Solutions, Serve America Assurance, Beema-Pakistan Insurance Co., Healthcare America, First American Health, Pinnacle Health Solutions, Executive Healthcare, Mini Healthcare and Omni Healthcare.
To see whether you were paying for one of these policies, check credit card and bank account records for withdrawals for "ATA-SDS."
Kentucky insurance commissioner Sharon Clark said people were paying for what they thought was health insurance when the product was with a health discount or limited-benefit plan.
The department of insurance will be contacting Kentuckians affected by the scam in the next week. Anyone with questions can call 1-800-595-6053 to speak to someone in Consumer Protection.
American Trade Association and related entities have been placed in liquidation in Tennessee, and the liquidation will attempt to recover some of the money. For more information about filing a claim, call 1-800-591-6764 or go to www.americantradeliquidation.com.
