The Better Business Bureau of Central & Eastern Kentucky is warning car shoppers to be on the lookout for a scam going on nationwide.
The scam uses the name of well-known, existing auto dealerships to fool consumers into wiring money for deposits on repossessed vehicles that are listed for extremely low prices. No vehicles are ever received, and there's no way to get back the money, the BBB warns.
According to a news release, the scam has popped up recently in some areas listing a non-existing automotive dealership in Hazard.
The advertisements have been spotted online and in smaller advertising publications far away from the supposed dealership, according to a news release.
The BBB urges consumers to only wire money to people you trust completely and to check out companies using its services at www.bluegrass.bbb.org.
