Gov. Steve Beshear will leave Friday for a seven-day economic development trip to India. The visit to the country is the first by a sitting Kentucky governor, according to a news release.
The purpose of the trip will be to sell Indian companies on the possibility of expanding in Kentucky. There are six Indian-owned companies that operate in Kentucky. Together, they employ more than 1,500.
Beshear will also visit with government officials and business organizations including the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry and the National Association of Software and Service Companies.
Beshear was invited to the country by the National Association of Software and Services Companies, a chamber of commerce for the information technology industry.
Going with Beshear will be his wife, Jane, and Economic Development Secretary Larry Hayes.
