State officials announced Wednesday that a survey of Kentucky manufacturers suggests more plan to hire employees in 2011.
In the 2010 Manufacturing Wage and Benefits Survey, 57 percent of Kentucky manufacturers surveyed said they planned to hire between one and 19 workers. That's up 16 percent from last year's results, according to a statement by the state Department of Workforce Investment and Kentucky Association of Manufacturers.
The survey also showed that the average annual pay for employees at the surveyed companies topped $50,000 for the first time. Workers at those firms averaged $51,771 in annual pay in 2010. That's up from $48,277 in the 2008-2009 survey.
The survey was taken by 202 companies this year, up from 147 last year.
