In an effort to help curb the numbers of unwanted horses, three groups are hosting a free gelding clinic at the Kentucky Horse Park on Dec. 4.
The clinic is open to anyone financially unable to afford the surgery, so applications are being accepted to bring in stallions. Castrations will be performed by veterinarians or by vet students under supervision.
To qualify, stallions must be halter broke, in good health with two descended testicles and at least 4 months old, and they must have current Coggins and health certificates.
The free service is sponsored by the Horse Park, the Kentucky Equine Humane Center and the Kentucky Horse Council.
The groups hope to provide 20 to 40 free surgeries, which are by application only. To apply, contact Sheila Forbes at the Horse Park at (859) 233-4305 or firstname.lastname@example.org by Nov. 23.
