A recent survey of Kentucky manufacturers suggested more of them are using temporary workers than in years past. About 68 percent of the manufacturers surveyed for the 2010 Manufacturing Wage and Benefits Survey said they're using temporary staff, up from 65 percent during the 2008-09 survey.
In the 2010 survey, 41 percent of the companies said they plan to hire temps in the future, up from just 3.4 percent during the last survey.
The survey was commissioned by the state Department of Workforce Investment, Kentucky Association of Manufacturers and other groups.
The survey was taken by 202 companies this year, up from 147 last year.
