A group aiming to increase energy efficiency that is composed of environmentalists and representatives from East Kentucky Power Cooperative will have its first meeting on March 29.
The group was formed late last year when the cooperative announced it would abandon its plans to build a coal-fired power plant, which the environmentalists opposed. In exchange for the latter dropping lawsuits and other legal proceedings, East Kentucky Power agreed to take part in a collaborative group to focus on increasing energy efficiency as a way to reduce demand for electricity.
The group will meet quarterly for the next two years. The meetings are open to the public. The March 29 meeting will be held from 1 to 4:30 p.m. at the Marriott Griffin Gate Resort & Spa on Newtown Pike.
