The owner of a Perry County call center has told state officials it plans to lay off more than 150 workers.
Sykes Enterprises filed a notice with the state that it intends to lay off 157 workers from its operations in Chavies. Company spokeswoman Andrea Burnett Thomas declined to say whether the employees have already been laid off.
"It is not unusual, especially in our business, to experience fluctuations in head counts, and that can be fluctuations in terms of an increase or decrease," she said. "Usually it's the result of us having to make changes just to adapt to various things like client needs, market conditions and so forth."
She declined to speak specifically about the Perry County operations other than to say that a closing hasn't been reported, and "when there's a decrease, it's a usual practice for us to look to see if there are other opportunities for impacted employees within Sykes."
