The Federal Trade Commission has given approval to Time Warner Cable's plan to purchase Insight Communications, the largest cable operator in Lexington and Kentucky, in a $3 billion deal.
The approval by the organization, which enforces competition laws, came Friday.
In announcing the deal in August, the companies said they expect it will close in the first half of 2012.
"We don't anticipate at this juncture that the timeframe will change," said Insight spokesman Jason Keller. "But it is a positive indication that a major regulatory hurdle was cleared in such a timely fashion."
