■ The Lexington Junior League's 75th Charity Horse Show has been awarded the 2011 National Honor Show by the United Professional Horsemen's Association. This marks the fourth time the show has been recognized for excellence. The National Horse Show Award is presented to the show that meets the standards of professional horsemen and the show horse industry. The 2012 Lexington Junior League Charity Horse Show will be held July 9 to 14 at The Red Mile.
■ Rick Davenport of Midway College has won the 2011 Fall Capstone Business Simulation Challenge, an international competition with entrants from more than 280 universities on five continents. Davenport, a veteran interested in government service, is studying for his MBA at Midway College. The Capstone Business Simulation Challenge is a global online competition held in the spring and fall semesters each year. The competition is open to students who have used a Capsim business simulation in a university course.
■ Lexington geotechnical engineer Alan Rauch of Stantec Inc. has been named a Newsmaker of the Year by Engineering News Record for his work with the Tennessee Valley Authority in the wake of a coal ash spill at the utility's Kingston, Tenn., plant. Rauch's design solution allowed TVA to contain millions of cubic yards of coal ash in an onsite landfill, saving TVA more than $473 million. The trade publication also published a cover story on Stantec's assignment with TVA, which has involved the skills of more than 500 Stantec employees.
■ Commerce Lexington has announced selections to its 2012 Ambassador Committee. This group of volunteers serves as a liaison between staff and the 1,700 Commerce Lexington member businesses. Ambassadors contact and meet with businesses to make sure they are getting the most out of their membership by connecting them to the programs and services that can benefit them the most. They also represent the organization at community events, ribbon cuttings and grand openings.
