Rupp Arena ranks fifth in the nation in a "Social Media Power 100" chart put together by Venues Today, a trade publication that covers the business side of entertainment and sports.
Rupp was behind such high-profile venues as third-place Madison Square Garden in New York City and the fourth-place Staples Center in Los Angeles. The chart ranked venues according to audience size and fan engagement, then adjusted the score for market size. The No. 1 venue on the chart was The Roxy, the famous nightclub in West Hollywood, Calif.
The chart says Rupp has 135,916 Facebook fans and 11,399 Twitter followers.
"It really speaks to the engagement of our fan base," said Sheila Kenny, director of marketing for Rupp Arena. "We have found just the right mix of not over-posting but keeping it active and not stagnant.
