Nearly 600 former members of a defunct Lexington health club will get refunds totaling $36,296, Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway announced Monday.
The checks will refund the unused portion of membership fees paid to Shapes New Dimensions Inc., a health club on Pimlico Parkway that closed its doors on April 25, 2012.
As required by Kentucky law, the club had in place a $50,000 bond for compensation of any member who suffers loss of money due to the closing of the health spa.
Conway's office said it worked with the previous owner to obtain documentation for membership information, send letters to affected members and place legal notices in the newspaper. As a result, 583 consumers will get refunds.
No information was available about how much each former member is to receive, but if each person received the same amount, it would be $62.26.
