A group of Liberty Road-area merchants have given themselves a new title that reflects the influence of a cluster of businesses with a similar focus: the Antique and Design District.
There's a new sign that went up this week at Liberty Road and Winchester Road. The four businesses that went in to post the sign — Room Service, Stalls, The Great Dames and The BeeHive — all offer goods for home furnishing and decoration.
Room Service, an upscale furniture and home decor consignment store, has been in business nearly 20 years, but the other businesses are newer.
"This little area has grown so much," said Julie Selby, owner of Room Service. "And it's not just on Liberty Road."
Never miss a local story.
She cited the design/floral firm House on Walton Avenue; Cowgirl Attic on Delaware Avenue; and Boxwood and Clark's Antiques, on Winchester Road.
"We don't really have an official organization," Selby said. "We're just trying to be more cohesive and promote things at the same time."
The antique mall called Stalls is also nearby, right behind Charlie's Seafood.
Betty Sue Walters, a manager at Stalls, which opened in early 2013, said her store's emphasis is on antique to modern furniture and design.
"Business is wonderful," Walters said. Designating the area an antique and design district "is the new fresh approach to pick up some people."
