The Lexington law firm McBrayer, McGinnis, Leslie & Kirkland and Smiley Pete Publishing are hosting a legal planning workshop that addresses the particulars of the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community.
"Planning for Equality: Estate Planning, Family Law, and Tax Information for the LGBT Community" will be 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 3 at ArtsPlace, 161 North Mill Street.
A panel of experts will address questions including: How do I make sure I have protected my spouse? What are the tax ramifications if I get married out of state, or have already married out of state? I have an adopted child, how do I ensure she/he is my beneficiary? My partner and I don't plan to get married, how do we ensure our assets are protected?
Panelists will include lawyers Margaret S. Barr, Brittany Blackburn Koch, Masten Childers III, Matthew J. Koch and Terri R. Stallard. The discussion will be moderated by Craig Cammack of the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Human Rights Commission.
The event will include lunch, a discussion and question-and-answer session.
