Postcards offering an "unclaimed reward" of "$100 in gift savings" at major discount stores have been showing up in area mailboxes, but the Better Business Bureau of Central & Eastern Kentucky is warning recipients to be wary.
Consumers who received the cards and called the number on them told the BBB that they were asked for their debit or credit card number to pay a "shipping and processing fee" of a few dollars.
The consumers said they were not given the name or location of the company, and when they asked how they were chosen to receive the card, the answers they received were vague.
One woman told the BBB she gave out her bank card information, and a few days later she saw $12 debited from her bank account for a "membership" in a shopping discount club.
Never miss a local story.
The Better Business Bureau warns people never to give out personal or financial information over the phone without adequate information, and not to pay for a "free" offer.
