Midway College has created a School of Business, Equine and Sport Studies, officials announced Tuesday.
"As Midway College looked to the future direction of our degree programs, a natural merger took place among some of our existing offerings that now gives the college a new positioning power and offers great value to our students," said Midway President John Marsden.
Midway has long-standing business and equine studies programs.
The new school will be led by Charles Williams, who has previously served as an academics dean at the University of Virgin Islands, East Texas Baptist University and Troy University.
Last year, an 18 percent drop in enrollment meant more than a dozen faculty were laid off at Midway, a private college in Woodford County that caters mostly to women students.
